A locally listed corner pub in Forest Gate had fallen into disrepair and long since ceased trading, leaving a characterful Victorian building underused and deteriorating on a prominent street corner. The consented scheme converts the existing building into seven two-bedroom apartments, with extensions to increase floor area, while adding two new-build three-bedroom houses to the rear of the site.
A key commitment of the scheme is the restoration of the pub's Victorian facade, stripping back overpainted brickwork and reinstating period-appropriate sash windows to return the building to its rightful place in the streetscene. The two new houses, finished in yellow stock brick with slate dual-pitched roofs, take their cues from the surrounding residential grain. RIDE delivered both technical design and construction, with the two houses now complete and the flat conversion to follow.
